The Quimper Bretagne Occidentale (QBO) local authority awards the public service contract to RATP Dev, a subsidiary of the RATP Group, to manage the QUB public transport network in the metropolitan area for 6 years and 2 months from 1 November 2024.

The QUB network serves the 100,000 residents in the 14 municipalities of the Quimper Bretagne Occidentale metropolitan area. The network includes 20 bus routes, 1 electric shuttle bus in the city centre, 34 school bus routes, on-demand transport, transport for passengers with reduced mobility, special-purpose transport services, and a bicycle rental scheme.

Helping advance the ambitious vision of Quimper Bretagne Occidentale

With the shared goal of making it easier for Quimper residents to get around, QBO and RATP Dev have redesigned how they manage mobility on the QUB network. The new transport offer should be more appealing to users thanks to a more seamless network. It will offer simplified routes serving a greater number of destinations as well as a more balanced transport service across all the municipalities of the QBO metropolitan area, while making it easier to buy tickets with the launch of open-payment.

Among the upcoming offers on this new network is an enhanced on-demand transport service that users can reserve up to 30 minutes before the departure time, serving the outlying suburbs and rural areas. Passengers will also be able to use the network to get around the whole metropolitan area on Sundays. Lastly, the service will include a new route between the railway station and Quimper city stops, with extended service hours for easier interconnections with TGV trains arriving late in the evening.

The offer also plans to expand the fleet of fully electric bicycles and new environmentally-friendly mobility options (cargo bikes, foldable bicycles, 1 inclusive bicycle designed for a user with reduced mobility).

Winning over new passengers

As part of the contract, new services will be implemented to promote the use of public transport with solutions specially designed for employees with non-standard working hours, tourists, and senior citizens. By the time students are returning to their classrooms, the service will also feature a more digital-based approach to subscriptions for school bus users.

Serge Reynaud, RATP Dev Executive Director France-Switzerland, explained: "We are delighted with the Quimper Bretagne Occidentale local authority's trust in RATP Dev's expertise. We draw on all our know-how and experience from managing multimodal networks to serve passengers, be they local residents in the Quimper Bretagne Occidentale metropolitan area or tourists."
